{Treat}

1. What is the best book you ever bought for yourself?

I rarely buy books for myself, but I did buy Pride and Prejudice {Jane Austen}, and I loved that one. I also bought My Sister’s Keeper, Perfect Match, and Salem Falls {Jodi Picoult}, and I love every single one of those.

2. And, why? What made it the best? What made it so special?

The writing is what makes these books special for me. I love how My Sister’s Keeper just kicks you in the gut at the end. I love how complicated Salem Falls is, and I love the relationship between the characters in Perfect Match. Pride and Prejudice just makes me smile very time I read it.

{Generosity}

1. Do you give books as gifts?

No, I usually don’t unless I know for sure that it’s a book my gift recipient wanted. I really don’t like suggesting books to people, except Melissa and Helen because our reading tastes are so similar.

2. To everyone? Or only to select people?

If I do, it’s to Melissa, Helen, or my mom. Not to everyone because I don’t know what everyone likes. For example, I hate fantasy novels, but several of my friends do, so I have no idea what fantasy novel to suggest.

3. How do you feel about receiving books as gifts?

Helen and my mom are the only two who buy me books. For the past three years, Helen has given me Sophie Kinsella’s new book for my birthday. My mom will occasionally buy me books on the whim, but she typically sticks to my please-buy-for-me-because-it’s-not-at-the-library list.

    I like suggesting books to friends and family. It’s kind of a game to track down just the right book.

    @ Beth: I really just don’t have the patience, and I’d hate to give someone a book they didn’t like, which they would feel obligated to keep because it was a gift.

    Isn’t it a wonderful treat to receive a book–especially is it’s one you’ve been longing for.

    I love receiving books and most of my family knows I keep an amazon wishlist of books I want. I will only buy books for folks I know are readers. Otherwise why waste a good book. :)

    @ Sally: I concur completely.

    @ Robin: I use to have an Amazon wishlist, but then I forgot my password, stopped updating it, and started receiving multiple copies. Whoops.
