Booking Through Thursday: 5 for Favorites

1. Do you have a favorite author?

I have at least four favorite authors with Jane Austen probably my overall favorite, but my most “modern” favorite is Jodi Picoult. I love how her novels question social precedents and how each one makes me reevaluate exactly what I believe.

2. Have you read everything he or she has written?

Almost. I’ve read every one but Second Glance and Songs of the Humpback Whale.

3. Did you LIKE everything?

I’ve certainly had my favorites but I can distinctly remember not liking Plain Truth. Despite how fascinating I find other cultures to be, Amish included, I never could get into the story. It’s a good story, just not for me. I’ve also recently started Songs of the Humpback Whale and I’m not sure I’m ever going to finish it. It’s Picoult’s first book and I can’t help but think that if I had started with Songs of the Humpback Whale, I never would have picked up any of her other ones. As it stands, I started with Plain Truth and only picked up another of her books because I didn’t recognize the author’s name.

4. How about a least favorite author?

I try to keep my reading selection varied and I don’t like to judge someone unless I’ve read more than one piece by them, if it’s possible, but one that comes to mind is L.M. Montgomery. Although, it’s been so long since I read Anne of Green Gables I’m not exactly sure why. Maybe it’s time to revisit Anne.

5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?

F. Scott Fitzgerald. I so wanted to like The Great Gatsby, but I couldn’t. I’ve had This Side of Paradise on my bookcase forever, but I’m hesitant to pick it up.
